Cambridge Yacht Club

Newsletter August 1, 2010

July was a big month for the Club, we started off with the 4th of July barbecue and fireworks, then finished it up with the Hosting of a buffet dinner for the Kick-off the 100th running of the Cambridge Power Boat Regatta.  The Club was decorated with racing memorabilia. There were old racing pictures blown up and hung through out, we had 3 Hydroplanes displayed on the lawn and about 200 racers and their families in attendance. Our acting Vice Commodore PC Fred Robinson used the club tub to ferry people from the pits at Great Marsh to our facility, so they could enjoy our fine food and drinks from Wednesday thru Saturday.  My thanks to all the Members and Staff for making this event a success!

We have a new manager onboard. His name is Robert Johnson.  Robert has an extensive background in the food service business, from owning a restaurant that seated 84 people for 20 years, to designing and start up of a very large restaurant in Arizona.  Robert will be the guy walking around with the “good looking shiny head”.  When you see them, give him a big Welcome Aboard! Robert says “God made only a few perfect heads and the rest he covered with hair”.

We would like to welcome new members, Doug & Linda Walker, Glory Bee Costa, Mary Jones and Ralph Smoot. The Membership Committee is seeking volunteers to help with welcoming new members, developing a new membership package and a membership campaign. If interested send me an email to the address below and include your contact information.

Saturday August 14th starting at 5pm we will be having the Commodores Pig Roast. On the menu I understand we will be having appetizers and snacks at the Gazebo bar, a whole roasted pig, Bishop’s own Baked Beans, North Carolina Coleslaw, Holly’s homemade corn bread, burgers and hot dogs for the kids, watermelon, desserts, ice cream and plenty of cold beverages. The cost is $21.95 for adults and $12.95 for kids 12 and under. Please call the office to make your reservation. Every Tuesday in September will be Italian night. With Robert’s background in cooking you won’t want to miss it.

The Fleet Captain, Mark Windmiller, came to the board with a proposal for allowing boatlifts to be added to the marina. The Flag & Board has given him the green light to move forward. The proposal is to allow lifts to be installed on K pier, from slip 19 to slip 25. With slip 25 being on the left side closest to the Gazebo. We proposed to start at slip 25 and work our way down the dock. If you are interested in a boatlift or know anyone that is, please give Mark a call (410-221-5144). Those that reply sooner will be closer to the Gazebo.

The folks over at E.S. Hubbert’s, Lynn & Greg Scott, have donated a grill for us to grill hamburgers and hot dogs at the Gazebo. When you’re at the Gazebo, ask Nicki “to fire up that grill and serve up some dogs”.

When planning an event, Birthday Party, Anniversary, Wedding, Christmas Party or any other special function, consider having it at the Club. We are able and willing to accommodate any size party and will do what ever it takes to meet your budget, just give Robert a call. August 11 there will be a private surprise (twin sweet 16) birthday party held in the Gazebo for my daughters, Gabby and Hope. If you’re around stop in and wish them “Happy Birthday”.

Respectfully submitted
