Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We spent time with family and friends and really enjoyed ending Thanksgiving weekend listening to Golden Touch after a fantastic dinner at the club! With this being my final newsletter as your Commodore for 2014, I’d like to look back on the past year to reflect on some of the great work that you, our members, along with the board, flag, and staff of CYC accomplished. We kicked off the beginning of the year with Chef Jessica joining our team. She’s done a wonderful job accommodating the many different tastes and food interests of our members and continues to be open to ideas and suggestions in her quest to serve the best quality meals! Thanks to Rear Commodore, Carol Baker-Jones, who has worked with both Jessica and the server team on constantly improving the CYC dining experience. We had a number of special events booked at the club including weddings, parties, and transient boater groups. All of these contributed greatly to the financial stability of the club. We had a great summer at the gazebo with frequent entertainment. We also had an extremely successful Junior Sail season with the prospect of increasing our sailing population in the future. Thanks to the generosity of the Baker family, the club also hosted two dinner/dance nights with Golden Touch as our entertainment, both nights were very enjoyable.
We did have some trials and tribulations including the fire in the storage room as well as the wall and window repair, the dock piping repair required by the fire marshall, and the installation of the pump out station required by the state. Would like to show my appreciation to Fleet Captain Bill Lachenmayr, he put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into the dock repair. Special thanks to Vice Commodore, Mike Mowbray, for his oversight of all of these projects. I think you’ll be in excellent hands next year as he transitions to your 2015 Commodore.
We have a number of committees in place at the club. One key committee, now solidly in place, is the finance committee. Thanks to IPC, Dewey Reed, and board member, Jack Saum, for their efforts in bringing structure to this important function.
Coming up for this month, we will be participating in the Cambridge Christmas parade with Miss CYC (the lovely Sarah Jane Freund) along with floats created by the Junior Sail committee. Our Annual Christmas Tree Trim will follow the parade this year on December 6th. Please come out and help decorate the tree while enjoying time with your friends and family. There will also be a New Years’ Eve dinner featuring the music of Three Miles Down. The club will be closed for the first two weeks of January, however, please save the date for the Commodore’s Ball on Saturday, January 24th.
In closing I would like thank our club manager, Linda Dayton, and the entire CYC staff for the service they provided throughout the year. Thank you to all of our members and the dedicated Board and Flag who have been a tremendous support to the club as well. It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve as your Commodore this past year!
